WHERE WERE YOU?
When I
became native of no land
In my fatherland.
When the night turns day
And the day says ‘no way’
With whips of affliction
on us stay
While feet swings astray.
Lost in sight as we run
the race
With our hopes held in
outer space
And great pain in the
marrow
In the darkest of night,
“what holds the morrow?”
Where were you?
When all that could
refresh the soul was songs of sorrow
Sweet dreams of misery
And dance steps of
suffering
To the tune, ‘poverty’.
Where were you?
When dreams only comes as
we gaze high
Fixed eyes to the
cloudless sky
With nakedness covered in
thought
And my palace; the
dirtiest hut
With an ‘open heaven’
For us all – eleven
Where were you?
Just when the blue sky
turns grey
Ears will be filled with
‘HEY!’
Fear gripping
For ‘open heaven’ dripping
“Oh Lord! Let it not rain”
And when it does, all in
vain
Buckets – filled
Inn? Another pacific
Laying in turns
Bailing the sea while the
eyes burns
Where were you?
When my rope
Is that of hope
Still, filled with joy
Without a toy
In battle with self
To fly above the present
shelf
With weapons of mouth
Pulling down great mount
Where were you?
When decisions was all I
need
And self-determination was
all I had
In spite of pleasures I
held my peace
For treasures to get at
ease
Where were you?
